Assam CM receives SIES National Eminence Award for leadership

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma received the 28th SIES Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati National Eminence Award for Public Leadership, during the Kanchi Mahaswami festival, at Shanmukhananda Hall, Mumbai on Saturday.

“Sanatana Dharma is an eternal, ever-renewing civilisational philosophy that has shaped the soul of Bharat,” said Sarma in his acceptance speech.

He said he is committed, “To nurturing the nation’s spiritual heritage and to building an India that is modern in capability, ancient in knowledge, and universal in outlook.”

Other honorees included Mumbai’s Dabbawalas for community leadership, Padma Bhushan Dr A Sivathanu Pillai and Padma Shri Dr Prahlada Ramarao for science & technology, and Dr Mani Dravid Sastrigal for social leadership and philosophy. Each award featured Rs. 2.5 lakhs cash, a brass lamp, shawl, citation, and mementos, honoring the legacy of Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi, the 68th Sankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham.

Mumbai’s Dabbawalas, known for their century-old tiffin delivery system, were felicitated for exemplary Community Leadership. Operating with near-perfect efficiency using bicycles, trains, and a unique coding system, they deliver over 200,000 meals daily across the city, embodying reliability, teamwork, and sustainability. Their UNESCO-recognised model has inspired global logistics studies, with zero-waste practices and a cooperative structure sustaining livelihoods for generations.

Padma Bhushan Dr A. Sivathanu Pillai, founder CEO of BrahMos Aerospace, and Padma Shri Dr Prahlada Ramarao, first Project Director of Akash Missiles, shared the Science & Technology award. Pillai pioneered India’s supersonic cruise missile BrahMos, an Indo-Russian joint venture enhancing defense capabilities. Ramarao led the indigenous Akash surface-to-air missile development, bolstering air defense systems. Their innovations have positioned India as a key player in aerospace technology

Dr Mani Dravid Sastrigal received accolades for Social Leadership and Philosophy, recognized for preserving Vedic traditions and fostering interfaith harmony through scholarly discourses. A prominent priest and philosopher, he upholds the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham’s teachings, promoting ethical living and cultural continuity amid modern challenges.
