Owing to their aggressive campaigning, the Mumbai District AIDS Control Society (MDACS) saw a 20 per cent rise in the number of voluntary blood donors as compared to last year. Most blood donors were from 247 Corporate Park at Vikroli where 233 people donated blood on a single day.
June 14 marked the beginning of MDACSs World Blood Donor Month campaign which kickstarted with the launch of a specialised mobile blood bank. The van scouted places like Bandstand,Nariman Point,Mahim church along with colleges and corporate houses, educating and encouraging people about voluntary blood donation.
The concept of a mobile blood bank along with corporate and college blood donation drive received an overwhelming response, especially from the youths, said Dr S S Kudalkar, project director of MDACS. We have collected over 40,188 units during the World Blood Donor Month as compared to 31,872 in the previous year. Owing to such tremendous response,we are extending the campaign. Our success shows that todays youth cares for the society and are aware of their social obligation, Kudalkar added.
