Man dies of electrocution after coming in contact with electric wire during immersion procession

(Express Photo/Sankhadeep Banerjee)A 37-year old man died and five others, including a six-year-old boy, suffered burns after they came in contact with a high-tension electric wire during a Ganesh idol immersion procession on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Binu Sukumaran, a resident of Gilbert compound on Khairani Road in Sakinaka.
According to police, the incident occurred around 10:45 pm when a procession of Gajanan Mitra Mandal reached near Sanman Hotel on Khairani Road.
As the idol came near a live electric wire, the deceased tried to raise it. Sukumaran and the five others suffered burns and collapsed on the ground, Deputy Commissioner of Police of Zone 10 Datta Nalawade said.

Among the injured were Dharmaraj Sukhdev Gupta, 49, Aarush Ashok Gupta, 6, Tushar Dinesh Gupta, 20, Shambhu Navnath Kamat, 20, Karan Vinod Kanojia, 14, who all live in the same vicinity.
An accidental death report has been registered in the matter.
“We are conducting an inquiry to find out if anyone’s negligence was the reason for the accident. An FIR will be registered accordingly” added Nalawade.
The statement of the injured’s family and witnesses are being recorded, added an official.
