Malad bar raided,32 arrested

As many as fourteen girls were rescued and 32 persons including customers were arrested by the Social Service (SS) Branch of the Mumbai Police from a bar in Dindoshi in Malad (West) on Friday night.

As many as fourteen girls were rescued and 32 persons including customers were arrested by the Social Service (SS) Branch of the Mumbai Police from a bar in Dindoshi in Malad (West) on Friday night. SS Branch officers said the police had received information that the bar was a front for illicit activities.

Police said Sargam Bar was raided at 10.30 pm on Friday by a team of officers from the SS Branch and the Dindoshi police.

“The information,which we received said girls were being supplied to patrons at the bar. Accordingly,we formed teams and raided the bar on Friday,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police (SS Branch) Firoze Patel.

Patel said the police arrested the manager,cashier and a waiter of the bar. “We have arrested them for their role. We have also arrested 29 customers who were present. A total of 32 persons,including patrons and employees,were arrested from the bar,” said Patel.

The arrested persons have been charged under several sections of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA). They were taken into custody by the Dindoshi police,where the case has been registered.

The girls who have been rescued will be produced in court,before being sent to a home for women if the court feels the need,said SS Branch officers.
