LYRICIST JAVED Akhtar has been acquitted by a magistrate court in connection with a defamation complaint filed by a man claiming to be an RSS supporter over comments allegedly made by him.

The court on November 8 acquitted Akhtar after the complainant withdrew the case. The complaint was filed in 2021 by lawyer Santosh Dubey, who had alleged that Akhtar in a television interview ‘defamed’ the RSS.

The complainant recently informed the court that the matter was settled between the parties in mediation. The report was submitted before court.

“Therefore, the complainant does not want to prosecute the accused and wishes to withdraw the complaint. Complaint is disposed of as withdrawn,” the judicial magistrate said in the order, made available on Monday.
