Kindergarten student raped,watchman held

The watchman of a school in Kalina,Santacruz, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a three-year-old kindergarten student.

The watchman of a school in Kalina,Santacruz (E),was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a three-year-old kindergarten student. A pre-primary teacher and another school employee were also arrested for allegedly trying to cover up the incident.

Vakola police said the incident occurred last Thursday morning when the victim,a junior KG student, was dragged into the school’s latrine by watchman Telam Singh (55) and allegedly raped. Singh has been employed with the school for over 35 years.

The officials said the victim, bleeding profusely, recounted the incident to Rekha Kamble,a school employee. She in turn informed Alison Miranda,a teacher. Officers alleged that Kamble and Miranda then tried to cover up the matter by threatening the victim against mentioning the incident to anyone.

At the end of the school day, when the girl reached her home in a blood-stained uniform, her mother questioned her and on learning from the victim about the incident, took her to the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital,Sion, for a medical checkup, where it was confirmed that she was raped. The mother then lodged a complaint with the Vakola police station.

Based on the complaint and another medical examination, the police arrested the watchman and the two other accused.
