A day after Shiv Sena UBT president Uddhav Thackeray asserted that the opposition INDIA bloc has many faces for the Prime ministerial position and asked BJP if the party has another face than Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday compared the opposition alliance with Raavan, the multi-headed demon king.
Hitting out at the third meeting of the INDIA alliance, Shinde said, “All the opposition parties have come together to plan the strategy to defeat Modi ji. But I will give them advice, do not play with fire, you will get burnt.”
Speaking at an event on the birth anniversary of Dr Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil, the pioneer of the cooperative movement, at Pravaranagar in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra on Thursday, Shinde said, “Yesterday someone(Uddhav Thackeray) said they have many faces for the Prime Ministerial position.. and asked if BJP has any other face. They say they have many faces, we know… Raavan has multiple faces. On one hand there is a Raavan, and on the other hand here we are the devotees of lord Shri Ram.”
Union Minister Rajnath Singh, who attended the event, also took swipes at the INDIA alliance meeting saying that the Opposition leaders are just banking on the name of their grouping as it was the only refuge left to them.
Citing a Hindi proverb, Singh said, “It is a strange name… I-N-D-I-A. I think their meeting has started today. But as everyone knows, it is nothing but ‘naam bade aur darshan chhote’. For these people, name is the only refuge left. They want to wade through a river using this name.”
“But by just using this name, the river cannot be crossed…A vortex cannot be crossed by using the name alone, for that one needs ‘karma’,” Singh said.
The two-day meeting of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I-N-D-I-A) began in Mumbai on Thursday in Mumbai’s Grand Hyatt hotel.
