Increase in pre-placement offers indicate good hiring season ahead: IIT Bombay
Over 150 offers, including 15 international ones, so far.
AN increase in pre-placement offers (PPOs) compared to last year and a keen interest by start-ups and multinationals are indicating a good hiring season coming up in IIT Bombay, according to officials. The first phase of campus placements will start on December 1 at the institute. At least 1,570 students are part of the campus placements, this year.
“Start-ups as well as big multinational firms have developed a keen interest in internship recruitment which stems from the huge associated benefits. IITians’ ability to quickly adapt and deliver results in a short span of time is undoubted. The firms treat the interns as potential future employees and give them challenging projects to work on. At the same time, the interns are given good exposure so that they come back to join the organisation if offered a PPO,” said Ayush Lakhotia, placement manager, institute placement team, IIT Bombay.
The institute has, so far, received over 150 pre-placement offers which includes approximately 15 international offers. The number of PPOs received by the institute last year was over 110.
According to institute officials, startups like PSTakecare, Holachef, Taskbob have given PPOs, this year. The other companies are Goldman Sachs, Google, Credit Suisse, Daikin (Japan), Deutsche Bank, General Electric, Flipkart, Hindustan Unilever, ITC, JP Morgan, Microsoft, Nomura, Qualcomm, Samsung and Sony (Japan).
“The season looks promising as we have seen a significant increase in the number of companies showing interest for campus recruitment. Also, the pre-placement offers have increased. The average salary package has also gone up. Trends at other B-schools show positive signs that the season would be good,” said Lakhotia.
Average salary estimation would happen once the season ended, he said, adding a 10 per cent rise was expected in the average salaries. “The startups are offering good packages and hence the average has gone up. I feel that because of the increase in startups, we might see an increase in the average salary,” he added.
“A recent trend in the placements has been the participation of start-ups including many started by IIT Bombay alumni. During campus placements for 2014-15, a total of 109 job offers were made by start-ups, spanning sectors like IT, education, analytics and engineering,” said an institute official. During the 2014-15 placements, IIT Bombay had seen an unprecedented 214 jobs being offered on the first day itself, and till June 2015, a total of 310 organisations had taken part in the placements and offered 1118 jobs.
