Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday indicated that the ambitious coastal road project could be implemented with the involvement of private players.
Fadnavis discussed the project, estimated to cost about Rs 8,000 crore and planned as a freeway from Nariman Point to Kandivali, with executives from financial services firm Nomura at the ongoing World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
In the first session of the forum, Fadnavis interacted with Minoru Shinohara, head of financial services firm Nomura, and the company’s chief executive in India, Vikas Sharma.
Chief Secretary Swadheen Kshatriya, principal secretary to the chief minister Praveen Pardeshi, principal secretary of industries department Apurva Chandra, and Bhushan Gagrani, chief of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation were also present at the discussion.
“The chief minister had a discussion about seeking the firm’s assistance in constructing the coastal road in Mumbai and development of basic infrastructure services in developing cities of Maharashtra,” a statement from the chief minister’s office said.
In the next session, the chief minister interacted with executives from several global firms such as General Electric, Mitsui, Novartis, Saffron, Cognizant and so on.
Fadnavis, in his maiden foreign trip after taking over as Maharashtra’s chief minister, is accompanying a high-level delegation from India led by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for the annual World Economic Forum meet that began on Wednesday.
