Fake encounter: Court rejects video recording of spot
In yet another setback to the prosecution in the alleged fake encounter case of Lakhan Bhaiyya, the court on Thursday rejected the video recording of the spot at Versova in Andheri where Lakhan Bhaiyya was allegedly shot dead. The prosecution had relied on the evidence that Ram Prasad Gupta, the deceaseds brother and first witness in the case, had recorded after the shootout on November 11,2006. Gupta on Thursday told the court,I rushed to the spot (Nana Nani park in Versova) the moment I was informed that my brother was killed. I took pictures and made a video of the spot on my cellphone. I thought it would be an important piece of evidence. The video was handed over to the investigating team in a compact disc.

Adarsh society members want access to original MoD documents
Members of the tainted Adarsh Cooperative Society moved an application before the judicial panel on Thursday, seeking access to the original documents from the Ministry of Defence. Most documents that are being produced before the commission are incomplete and we suspect the evidence is purposely suppressed. The commission has directed the ministry to make the documents available by the first week of August, said Advocate Saket Mone, who represents the society. The issue was raised during the crossexamination of Brigadier Deepak Saxena, who on Wednesday claimed that all members of the highrise, who were working with the Ministry of Defence, were the ones who took all decisions with respect to the society. Adding impetus to the state government’s claim that the land belonged to it,Saxena on Thursday deposed that the Army headquarters was aware of the fact that the plot on which the highrise stands in South Mumbai was earmarked by the state in its Draft Development plan. It is true that the Army did not take any objection to the inclusion of the land in question in the Draft Development plan in spite of having knowledge of the same, Saxena told the panel.
