ROADS: 190 buses damaged by protestors. Vandalised buses included 156 of BEST. In Thane,Kalyan-Dombivli and Navi Mumbai 30 buses damaged. Taxis and autorickshaws off the roads.

TRAINS: Some disruptions,none major. Protesters blocked tracks between Thane and Mulund,no arrest. They also blocked Indrayani Express and Sinhagad Express at Monkey Hill station,Central Railway said. Stone pelted on train near Panvel. Western Railway said protestors stalled morning trains at Borivali. Train from Borivali to Churchgate was stopped at Santacruz by someone who pulled the chain. Some persons were found pouring liquid on a seat. Tracks wee blocked between Malad and Goregaon,and Vile Parle and Andheri.” Over 500 arrested for detaining trains,including 250 people from Mumbai and Thane,railway police said.

FLIGHTS: 89 cancelled,including 47 departures as after fliers failed to show up. Till 5 pm,only 139 arrivals and 170 departures. Flights to eastern sector most affected. No prepaid taxis; arriving passengers struggled. 20 BEST buses ferried 1,129 fliers from domestic terminal,six others took 764 fliers from international terminal,four private coaches ferried 492 from the domestic terminal to Andheri and Vile Parle stations.

BATTLE PITCH: In Nashik,some Congressmen burnt an effigy of Bal Thackeray,while Shiv Sainiks burnt an effigy of Sonia Gandhi. Some Sainiks had thrown cowdung and muck on a banner of Gandhi at the Congress office; Congressmen marched to the Sena office but police stopped them. This was followed by the back-to-back effigy burning.

CASE DIARY: In Mumbai,51 offences,192 arrests and 1,268 detentions. Elsewhere,4,268 arrested and 2,500 detained. Since saturday,17,000 persons,including 3,483 from the city,had been sent notices.
