The Government Railway Police (GRP) Wednesday arrested a 43-year-old man after he was found extorting money from a railway commuter. Joseph Raosaheb Khandagale was earlier booked in 2012 in a rape case by the the Pant Nagar Police.
Khandagale was booked under section 170 of the IPC for posing as a public servant and demanding money from a passenger who was trespassing at Kurla station. According to the GRP,Khandagale,a resident of Matunga,ekes out a living by driving private vehicles.
On Wednesday,Mohammed Shamsher Harun,18,after alighting from a train tried to cross the railway tracks instead of using the footover bridge. Khandagale,posing as a police personnel,demanded Rs 250 as fine from Shaikh.
While patrolling,a railway crime branch policeman spotted the duo. On confronting Khandagale,he learnt that he was extorting money from the teenager. The accused was then handed over to the Kurla GRP.
