A day after a 43-year-old woman and her driver were found murdered in Juhu, the Mumbai Police have formed four teams to track down two Nepali men who were employed as domestic help by the victim.
It has also emerged that the two men had expected to find gold and cash worth lakhs in the house, but ended up robbing items worth around Rs 5,000 after they failed to open the locker.
The two suspects Teksingh Badila and Ramsingh Badila had been working at the residence of Kavita Suchak for seven years. Taking advantage of the absence of Suchaks husband, the duo killed her and the driver before fleeing. Kavita,a mother of three, was alone in the house with the servants on Tuesday. Her children had gone to the school.
The four teams have been sent to different parts of the country to track down the duo,who are believed to be headed to Nepal.
Kavitas husband Yogesh,a financial consultant, has been in the US for the past 10 days. He has been informed about the incident and is expected to reach the city by Wednesday night.
The couple lived on the ground floor of Jai Jagdish Society in Juhu. Police said the suspects tied the driver,Prashant Bagve (35),who had been working with the couple for around 14 years with tape and strangulated him before hitting Suchak on the head with a sickle. The police have seized the sickle from the crime scene.
The murders are suspected to have taken place in the afternoon. The incident came to light after one of Kavitas children returned home and waited outside as no one responded to the bell. Later, the other two children also came from school and they approached a relative nearby who had an extra pair of keys. On opening the door, they found the bodies of Kavita and the driver and informed the police.
The suspects had tried to break the safe in the cupboard but could not do so. However,we have not been able to ascertain exactly how much cash and valuables have been stolen. It is only after Yogesh comes back that we will get to know what has gone missing, said V S Mhetre, assistant sub-inspector of the Juhu police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 9) Pratap Dighavkar said Yogesh had,in a telephonic conversation, told them that the couple were not in the habit of keeping much cash and gold at home.
