The first retrofitted local train remodelled under a new technique by the railways is now ready for a run following successful trials. Encouraged by the success in retrofitment of this first nine-car rake running on Direct Current (DC) into an AC-DC rake, the Central Railway has now decided to upscale its initial programme of retrofitment of 10 such rakes to 20 rakes.

Retrofitment of another 10 rakes would be carried out at the CR’s Matunga Workshop and Kurla car-shed. Induction of these AC-DC rakes by way of retrofitment of original DC rake is a key input in the ongoing DC to AC conversion project of the CR and will enable completion of the project on schedule i.e December 12. During the retrofitment, the CR is not only altering the circuitry such as rectifiers and transformers but also the amenities such as seat cushion, ventilation grillsetc.
