The Crime Branch on Thursday arrested two brothers and their associate for allegedly filing a false kidnapping complaint against two business rivals.

The Crime Branch on Thursday arrested two brothers and their associate for allegedly filing a false kidnapping complaint against two business rivals.

Those arrested have been identified as Mohammed Asim Shafiq Mansuri (18),his brother Abdul Rab alias Rabbi Shafiq Mansuri (21) and their associate Afzal Anwar Sheikh (20). They have been handed over to the Versova police.

The police said Asim Mansuri approached the Versova police on Wednesday and lodged a complaint claiming that his elder brother Rabbi had been kidnapped. Asim alleged that Mohammed Nasim and Mohammed Asif had carried out the kidnapping.

“A kidnapping case was registered against Nasim and Asif and the Crime Branch began investigations. Asim had stated that he ran a hair salon in Versova called Hair Craft and that the two men he had named used to work for him. Asim claimed that Nasim and Asif were sacked by him for irregularities in cash transactions,” said a Crime Branch officer.

“Mohammed Nasim Yasin Ahmed Mansuri (22) and Mohammed Asif Liyaqat Mansuri (21) were picked up from Bandra and Jasai Phata. After questioning,it became apparent that the men named by Asim were not involved in the crime,” said the officer. “It was found that Asim had faked his brother’s kidnapping. Rabbi and a friend of the two brothers, identified as Mohammed Sheikh (20) were also picked up from Mumbai and Pune

During interrogation, they confessed Nasim and Asif had started a hair salon in Versova, which was affecting the brothers’ business. “They, with the help of Afzal, staged a kidnapping and lodged a complaint against their two business rivals,” the officer said.
