Top seeds Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers helped themselves to a double crown when they retained the Challenger and Champions titles,in the 3rd Affinity Corporate Badminton Challenge 2013,jointly organized by the Maharashtra Badminton Association and Evolution Sport,at the NSCI on Wednesday.

The favourites kicked off a rewarding day when they beat second seeds M.J. Foundation 2-0 in the Challenger Trophy final,with Mayur Tawade and Nikhil Kolhatkar winning the opening doubles tie and Purushottam Awate sealing the issue by snatching the second singles tie.

In contrast,RCF were stretched by Western Railway who forced the decider in the Champions Trophy final. Western began with a surprise 1-0 lead when Mandeep Singh overcame Amey Pawar in a tight opening singles tie.

But Prasad Shetty and Abhishek Kulkarni drew level by winning the second doubles tie,before Amit Kshatriya prevailed over Amey Joshi in straight sets in the deciding singles tie to help RCF retain their crown. Shailesh Daga of M.J. Foundation won the combined mens doubles 90+ and 80+ titles,while Supriya Devgun of Evolution Sport earned a double crown by winning the combined womens doubles 60+ and mixed doubles 60+ finals.

Chess tournament on June 23

Dr Prakash Vaze Sports Foundation will be conducting a chess tournament,the VG Vaze Memorial Open Rotating Chess Trophy,under the auspices of Bombay Chess Association in Mulund on June 23.
