Officers revealed that the persons would later be produced before court where they would be given an option to either undergo a de-addiction programme or face punitive action,depending on the courts directives.

The police had busted a party organised at Oakwood Premier Hotel,Juhu,on May 20 and had taken blood and urine samples of the guests. As many as 52 men and 38 women were subjected to the tests and 19 of the persons were foreign nationals. Two of those who tested positive for contraband use are cricketers.

We want to conduct detailed inquiries in the case and have decided to call just 4-5 persons every day so that their statements can be recorded. As per court orders,those who will be called will be released on bail after they give their statements, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 9) Pratap Dighavkar.

Dighavkar said summons were being sent in batches to those who had tested positive. The police,however,have decided to try those who have been accused of possessing contraband.

The option to choose a de-addiction programme will only be for those charged with consumption. Those who have been charged with possession will be tried under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985, said Dighavkar.

The process to undergo a de-addiction programme will be supervised by a committee comprising an Assistant Commissioner of Police,a senior police inspector,a doctor from the J J Hospital and an NGO representative,said the police.

Sources said of the 90 persons who were rounded up at the party,86 had tested positive. Of these,62 tested positive for cannabis,three for cannabis and cocaine,20 for for MDMA and cannabis and one for MDMA. As many as 33 patrons tested positive for alcohol.

The police team that raided the party had seized 110 gm cocaine and 64 gm charas.
