Deputy CM Fadnavis meets RSS leaders in Nagpur
With Assembly polls likely in October, the BJP is leaving nothing to chance to improve its electoral fortunes.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis held a meeting with RSS functionaries in Nagpur on Saturday. Fadnavis visited the RSS headquarters, Dr Hedgewar Smruti Mandir, at Reshimbaug in Nagpur.
“The meeting between Fadnavis and RSS leaders was related to organisational matters with stress on improving RSS-BJP coordination ahead of the Assembly polls in Maharashtra,” a source said.
Officially, neither the BJP nor the RSS was willing to comment on the meeting. A BJP functionary said, “Enhancing coordination between the BJP and all right wing frontal organisations led by the RSS was deliberated at length.”
The BJP is banking on the support of RSS and affiliated organisations to overcome the shortcomings that led to its debacle in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, in which the BJP performed miserably winning just nine out of 28 seats. With alliance partner Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and NCP led by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, it managed to win just 17 out of 48 seats. Whereas, the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) won 30 seats.
With Assembly polls likely in October, the BJP is leaving nothing to chance to improve its electoral fortunes.
The party is also facing challenges within the Mahayuti with both Shinde and Ajit Pawar vying to consolidate their own organisations and electoral tally.
Though the state government has already announced a slew of populist schemes like the Ladli Bahin Yojana, free electricity to farmers and stipend to youths, strategists believe it requires mammoth support of the cadre to reach out to the masses.
State BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule said, “The party is planning an outreach programme from August 9 to 16. During this period leaders and workers will take the welfare schemes undertaken by the government to people.”
Another issue which is on the party’s agenda is countering the growing Muslim community support to the MVA.
