Kala Ghoda Café is currently hosting an exhibition of vintage photographs of Mumbais cyclists. The old black-and-white pictures that hark back to the early 1900s,ooze romanticism and nostalgia. In our times, children dreamt of getting a bicycle for their birthday, and riding one meant ultimate freedom; those were the days without Facebook and chatting, says Pat,the collector of the photographs and a photographer himself. Supported by fellow bike enthusiast and cafe owner Farhad Bomanjee, its a light-hearted initiative to invoke awareness about the utility of the good old two-wheeler,says Pat. Moreover,if one rides a bicycle to the café on a Sunday morning, they get a free cup of coffee.
Despite the changing times, the bicycle hasnt become obsolete and is used by people from various spheres like dabbawalas and milkmen, apart from fitness freaks, concludes Pat. The exhibition is on till August 10.
