No tax concessions for Zubin Mehta concert

The state government has decided against granting entertainment duty concessions to the charity concert by Zubin Mehta. “We have examined the issue and it has not been agreed upon,” a senior state government official said, adding that the show would not be exempt from entertainment tax. The state government had,in 1973,issued a GR that had exempted all music performances from the levy of duty, but the 2001 GR had excluded western classical music from its ambit. According to the provisions of the Entertainment Duty Act,1923,the performance will be charged 25 per cent entertainment tax as it is being held in the BMC limits.
