The Kasturba Marg police busted an inter-state fake currency racket and arrested a man on Tuesday. They recovered fake currency to the tune of Rs 2.78 lakh from the accused. Additional Commissioner of Police (North Region) Ramrao Pawar said,Our team had received a tip off that one Mirza Shaikh alias Sameer Rathi,a native of West Bengal,would be arriving at Ghanshyam Tower in Borivali east on Monday with fake currency notes. Acting on the information,we formed a team and laid a trap for Shaikh.
When the police spotted Shaikh on MG Road,they apprehended and frisked him. On searching,the police found 98 notes of the denomination of 1,000,and 360 notes of the denomination of 500. Shaikh was immediately arrested, said Pawar. During interrogation,the police discovered Shaikh had been given the fake currency by a man named Mamu,from Bengal,who had promised Shaikh a commission of Rs 350 on every fake note of Rs 1,000 he would circulate in the market.
