Cops beat up 11-yr-old reveller
Swapnil Chougule (11) of Pant Nagar was allegedly roughed up by cops during Holi celebrations Wednesday. The boy was injured but police have not registered a case yet,his family claimed. Locals and his brother Ganesh claimed Swapnil was playing outside his house in Ghatkopar (East) when his water balloon hit a cop on patrol duty. The constable and a colleague beckoned the boy and beat him up. Ganesh,who rushed Swapnil to Rajawadi Hospital,said: We are in the process of approaching senior officers to register an FIR. Additional commissioner of police (East) Qaiser Khalid said they would investigate the case and if it was proved the boy was hit by cops,action would be taken.
Civic body to buy six heart-lung machines
Following media reports on deaths due to lack of critical heart-lung machines at KEM Hospital,BMC declared Friday it would soon procure six more such machines. Tenders will be floated next month. KEM has four heart-lung machines. Standing committee chairman Rahul Shewale said an inquiry will be set up to probe the matter. He also said malnourished children coming to KEM for treatment would also be referred to Fortis,Seven Hills and Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and BMC would foot the bill.
