Burglars strike during IPL final

The Khar police recently arrested two men for allegedly robbing Rs 5 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 49 lakh from the Khar residence of a builder,Gopal Gurwani (61).

The Khar police recently arrested two men for allegedly robbing Rs 5 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 49 lakh from the Khar residence of a builder,Gopal Gurwani (61).

The arrested were identified as Deepak Singh alias Kartik (20) and Tapan Quila (26). The police were hunting for another suspect.

“Tapan was the family’s driver earlier. Deepak was their domestic help. On April 25,when the family went to watch the IPL final,the trio looted Rs 5 lakh and jewellery worth Rs 49 lakh,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (West Region) Amitabh Gupta.

During investigations,police got to know that the watchman had seen Deepak leaving the building carrying a bag on April 25 night.

The police said Deepak,a Midnapore-resident,had been convicted for a burglary in Khar years ago and had served his sentence.

“We nabbed him from Bandra following a tip-off. During interrogation,he revealed that Tapan and his brother Swapan had planned the robbery,” said police sub-inspector Nitin Patil.
