The Goregaon police on Tuesday arrested two brothers for allegedly killing their sister’s 34-year-old boyfriend in a brutal pre-meditated attack on Monday night. The police have also arrested the wife of one of the brothers along with their mother.

According to the police, the arrested accused have been identified as Kishan Kharwa (29),his brother Bharat (20),Kishan’s wife Bharti (30) and his mother Radha (55). According to the police, the four accused are residents of the Teen Dongri area in Goregaon (West). While Kishan drives an auto-rickshaw,his brother works for a private firm; Bharti and Radha are housewives. The victim,Sanjay Kiran Mukherjee, was unemployed and was a resident of the same area.

Police officers investigating the case said the incident took place at around 7 pm on Monday at building number 2,Sane Guruji Nagar, near the residence of the accused. Mukherjee was allegedly in a live-in relationship with Kishan’s sister who lives in Malad. According to the police,Kishan had seen Mukherjee going to his sister’s residence on several occasions and had warned him to stay away from her. However,Mukherjee did not pay any heed to the warnings.

“Mukherjee was in a live-in relationship with Kishan’s sister in Malad. Kishan and his family opposed their relationship and had warned Mukherjee to leave their sister,” said Shivaji Mandle, senior police inspector of Goregaon police station.

The police said the four accused called Mukherjee for a meeting on the pretext of talking to him about their marriage. However, when he reached the spot, they abused him and began beating him with bamboo sticks. When the family realised that Mukherjee had died due to the battering, they called up the police and told them they had caught a thief while he was trying to flee and had thrashed him.

Mukherjee sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to the nearby Siddharth Hospital where he was declared dead on admission. “We suspected foul play, and after they were questioned, the Kharwas confessed to the crime and the reason for committing the murder,” added Mandle. The four accused have been booked on charges of murder.
