BMC to take action if rules violated at Deonar abattoir after crackdown on goat sellers
Appealing to the people to purchase animals for religious slaughter only from the Deonar slaughter house, BMC announced that a dedicated vigilance team will take strict action if the mandatory entry process at Deonar abattoir is not followed.

A day after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced a crackdown on goat sellers ahead of Bakrid on June 30 for alleged violation of norms, the civic body issued a bulletin, reiterating the need to collect passes and receipts at Deonar abattoir for the occasion just like every year.
According to officials, BMC has seized 134 goats from temporary markets over the past four days.
Appealing to the people to purchase animals for religious slaughter only from the Deonar slaughter house, BMC announced that a dedicated vigilance team will take strict action if the mandatory entry process at Deonar abattoir is not followed.
In its notice, BMC said that a vigilance team had discovered that a van carrying goats had not collected receipts at the abattoir premises. “As per a circular published by the market department earlier and relevant rules, similar to every year, goats brought for Bakrid 2023 are first brought to Deonar abattoir and required passes or receipts are taken there, and then forwarded,” reads the BMC release. -with PTI inputs
