An official from the city’s fire department assured that the force is ready to deal with any eventuality.
After high tide of over 4.5 metres and heavy rain paralysed Mumbai on June 19, the BMC has released dates when tides are expected to be unusually high in the next three months of monsoon. According to a BMC press note, 20 days in July, August and September would see high tide over 4.5 metres tall.
Most will arrive at the beginning and towards the end of the months. The highest tide of 4.85 metres is expected at around 1 pm August 31.
An official from the city’s fire department assured that the force is ready to deal with any eventuality. “The fire brigade has a standard operational procedure in place. We have deployed our personnel. We had made necessary arrangements in May itself,” he claimed. As part of its monsoon-preparedness, BMC has created six flood rescue teams consisting of a senior official and four firemen.
