BMC disqualifies contractor for hiding information while bidding

“We have served the contractor a show-cause notice and asked him to explain why he submitted inadequate documents. Also,his security deposit will not be returned. He should give the reason why we should excuse him despite the fact that he concealed details of all his pending works,” said Additional Municipal Commissioner Aseem Gupta.

The BMC has collected a security deposit of Rs 15 crore from the contractor,RPS Infra.

According to a road official,the contractor,who is currently building retaining walls along the Mithi River,had concealed information about his current works including a cost “variation”,administrative language for a escalation over the estimated cost,for the Mithi project.

The BMC had floated tenders to execute roadworks in late July and divided it into nine smaller contracts. RPS Infra was short-listed by the civic body among the nine contractors who would bag one contract worth Rs 72crore. “It is important that all those who bid for the project disclose all information about their ongoing project and all possible cost variations. Only then the BMC can decide whether the company is capable to execute the project according to its demands,” said an official.

The civic administration will,meanwhile,resume allotment of the contracts of Rs 550 crore to construct the major roads within the next few days. The work to construct major roads will start by October while the work to construct minor roads of 30-feet will start in November,according to Gupta.

The BMC has also planned to repair and re-surface all its flyovers. “The work on flyovers will start by December end,” he added.
