The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has received a whopping three lakh applications for 3,916 conservancy workers posts. However,none of the 2,800 candidates interviewed on the first two days of the recruitment process qualified for the job. The main obstacle for candidates is the physical fitness test that requires them to run four kilometres in 15 minutes at an average speed of 16 km per hour. Political leaders have met Municipal Commissioner Subodh Kumar asking the BMC to change this criteria. Sena leader Sunil Prabhu said the recruitment criteria was vague. In 2009,the BMC decided that those who have not passed Class X will have to fulfill the criteria of physical fitness.
