Police Friday arrested a gang of five who tried to extort Rs 1 lakh from a garments trader in Sewree posing as I-T officials. The accused Thursday told the trader they had 100 tickets of a show at Ravindra Natya Mandir in Prabhadevi,and unless he bought all the tickets for Rs 1,000 each they would conduct a raid. After much pleading,the trader bought six tickets and convinced them to return Friday, said senior inspector Balkrishna Garule,RAK Marg police station. The owner informed the police and a trap was laid.

17-yr-old girls body found hanging

Police have initiated inquiries into the suicide of a 17-year-old girl whose body was found hanging in her Malwani residence Thursday afternoon. A neighbour saw her hanging from ceiling fan, police said. The door was broken open and the victim rushed to Bhagwati hospital in Borivali where she was declared dead on arrival.

2 brothers held for attack on trader

A day after trader Mohandas Khatri was attacked and injured outside his residence in Ulhasnagar,police arrested two brothers in the case. The duo,Naveen Keshwani (31) and his brother Suraj (27) said they attacked Khatri with meat-choppers to avenge the assault on their father by Khatri a day earlier,police said.
