A 40-year-old activist from Malwani,known for his crusade against drug peddlers and addicts in the area,was killed allegedly by a family of five Tuesday. The police suspect the murder was the result of a dispute over ownership of a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) flat in the area. Police said Ismail Memon was chatting with his friend outside his residence in Malwani,when suspect Rustum Shaikh attacked him with a chopper. Shaikhs mother Yasmin alias Masoom later joined him and beat up Ismail. Rustum then allegedly stabbed him. A few minutes later,Rustums younger brother Ammu called his siblings,who are minors. The men then allegedly assaulted Ismail,killing him.
Malwani police have booked Shaikh and his family members for murder. A manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits, said Abdul Rauf Shaikh,senior inspector.
