The cast of Raat Gayi Baat Gayi? is an excited lot. They can’t stop thinking about their New Year’s Eve release. The entire team is taking all the effort they can to make sure that the right kind of audience reaches the cinemas to watch the comedy that they’ve worked so hard on.

The film is based on three couples getting sloshed at a party. They wake up with no memories of the night’s happenings and are suddenly filled in with various shocking stories. “I’ve said this a million times and I’m saying it again, the film is not a copy of The Hangover,” says director Saurabh Shukla. He goes on to explain that the film had been planned long before he had even heard of The Hangover but it kept getting stalled because of various reasons. “But it’s ready to be out now and we’re sure the audiences will come out laughing.”

We meet the director and two of his cast members — Neha Dhupia and Vinay Pathak,at Oberoi Mall,Goregaon — where they are being mobbed by an thrilled crowd. The film has a lot of crazy humour,a mystery and throughout the film there is speculation of a one-night stand,is all the director reveals.

Bring up the topic of one-night stands and all three shy away from answering if it’s happened to them. “I’ve had many chances and temptations, but never gave in. I’m quite good that way,” the director finally says. “I have absolutely no issues with people who are OK with sex with no strings attached. I just can’t ever imaging doing that myself,” smiles Dhupia, while Pathak says that he’s never had one too. “But I know lots of people who do and it’s completely OK. So many people visit prostitutes which is more unsafe. Who are we to judge?” he says, diplomatically.

But what is it about the opposite sex that tempts them the most? “After a bit of alcohol, men will find any women seductive. She never needs to take any effort and if she does,we won’t even notice because we’re already tempted. This is the ugly truth and should be hidden no more,” Pathak laughs. Dhupia and Shukla,on the other hand, are shy and stick to clichés. “Nothing can be more stimulating than an intelligent conversation,” says the actress while the director thinks a woman with a great sense of humour is a big turn on.

Since the film is about everyone losing their consciousness after excessive alcohol,we ask them about the craziest thing they’ve ever done after being completely intoxicated. “I don’t drink that much,” giggles Dupia immediately. “Okay fine,so there was this one time when I was partying in Singapore. We entered one place at 8 pm with the plan of having a couple of drinks and food and retiring early. But we ended up having so much fun that we went kept club-hopping and I found myself at the hotel only at lunchtime the next day.”

Pathak on the other hand is currently a teetotaler but he remembers his college days in New York when he would empty six cans of beer in a funnel and gulp them in under a minute. “The kind of insane things we did after that should never be printed,” he laughs.
