Former Mumbai corporator Ameya Ghole, considered to be a close aide of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray, resigned as treasurer of the party’s youth wing and joined the Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday.

Ghole wrote to Aaditya, who heads the Yuva Sena of the Shiv Sena (UBT), that hurdles were being created for him by party leader Shraddha Jadhav and Yuva Sena secretary Suraj Chavan and that he was joining the “real” Shiv Sena.

Earlier in January Ghole remained absent from a Yuva Sena core committee meeting, triggering speculations that he was about to quit the youth wing and switch to Shinde’s side.

Ghole was a Shiv Sena corporator in Mumbai’s Wadala constituency and was said to be unhappy with the “coterie” around Aaditya. He had also conveyed his concerns to Aaditya and Sena president Uddhav Thackeray, a party functionary said.

Ghole had not been involved in the party’s affairs for the past couple of months and had even stopped using the party symbols and names on Twitter, the functionary added.

Despite being a first-time corporator, Ghole was appointed chairperson of the civic health committee in 2019.
