2011 blasts: ATS files additional chargesheet

The 417-page chargesheet includes statements of employees of the hospital Afaq worked in and shopkeepers from where the duo are accused of procuring the explosives from quarries located in Karnataka.

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) Thursday filed its supplementary chargesheet against alleged Indian Mujahideen men Dr Syed Ismail Afaq (34) and Saddam Hussein (35), who are suspected to have provided explosives that were used in the July 2011 triple blasts in Mumbai that left 27 dead and 127 injured.

According to ATS sources, the 417-page chargesheet includes statements of employees of the hospital Afaq worked in and shopkeepers from where the duo are accused of procuring the explosives from quarries located in Karnataka.

The chargesheet details the meeting between the alleged mastermind Yasin Bhatkal and Assadullah Akhtar alias Haddi, who allegedly travelled to Bhatkal (in Karnataka), three months prior to the blasts, to procure the explosives from the duo.

The duo have allegedly confessed to the Bengaluru police that they procured the explosives from quarries in Karnataka. They managed to get the explosives through an illegal channel and handed the consignment over to Yasin Bhatkal and Assadullah Akhtar, officials told The Indian Express.

So far, the ATS has arrested eight people in connection with the case including IM leader Yasin Bhatkal. All the accused are facing trial under the stringent MCOCA, Indian Penal Code and other laws. Among those wanted in the case are Riyaz Bhatkal, Waqas Ibrahim Sad, Dubai-based Muzaffar Kolah and Tehseen Akhtar Shaikh.
