Two groups get into brawl,one critical

One person sustained serious injuries when two rival groups got into a brawl during a procession to mark the birth anniversary of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar at the Mata Rani Chowk this afternoon.

One person sustained serious injuries when two rival groups got into a brawl during a procession to mark the birth anniversary of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar at the Mata Rani Chowk this afternoon. The injured,Satyajit,has been admitted to the DMC Hospital and his condition is stated to be critical.

The incident took place outside the office of the MC Employees’ Union near the Municipal Corporation (MC) office at the Mata Rani Chowk,where the members taking out the procession had halted.

Sources said as the rumours of the theft of one person’s cell phone spread,two groups got into a scuffle,which later turned nasty. In the clash,the rival groups pelted each other with glass bottles. Satyajit was allegedly attacked by some unidentified persons with sharp-edged weapons and he sustained injuries on his head and chest. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital,from where he was referred to the DMC Hospital.

Some political leaders from the SAD-BJP alliance were also present at on spot when the incident took place. The leaders included SAD-BJP candidate for Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency Gurcharan Singh Galib,MP Sharanjit Singh Dhillon,BJP MLA Harish Bedi and others.
