Saplings planted at Ram Lal Bhasin School

Celebrating ‘Van Mahotsav’ under its president,Balraj Bhasin,students of Ram Lal Bhasin Public School,Phase-I,Dugri,today planted as many as 1,000 saplings.

Celebrating ‘Van Mahotsav’ under its president,Balraj Bhasin,students of Ram Lal Bhasin Public School,Phase-I,Dugri,today planted as many as 1,000 saplings.

The function was presided over by Kushwinder Singh,Forest Range Officer and Mohan Singh,Block Officer. The students came out with their views regarding the conservation of trees. The little ones recited lovely poems on trees. A skit was presented by students of class V on Chipko Movement under the slogans “Each one,plant one”,and “Save trees,save earth”. The poems recited by Akriti,Simram,Mehak,Pushpdeep and Shivam Dhawan left the audience spell bound.

The students and staff members planted one sapling each. The students were told how wonderful a tree is and how much it does for us and we cannot think of life without trees. As many as 500 saplings of trees like Sheesham,Gulmohar,Neem,Mulberry,Dek etc. were planted inside and outside the school campus and in Phase I,Dugri. The students planted them in the houses of Phase I also.

To inculcate in the students a concern for their environment,the school has constituted “Tarumitra Club”,which promotes plantation drive and works to fight pollution. The motto of the club is to keep Ludhiana “Clean and green”.The club has in the past also carried out plantation work and has converted garbage dump in Phase I,Dugri,into a green belt now.

The president of the school,Balraj Bhasin,director of the school,S Verma and the headmistress,Tarannum Fatma encouraged the students to plant at least one tree in a year which will give fruit,shelter and nourishment to some passersby and expressed their sincere thanks to the District Forest Office,Ludhiana for their kind gesture of donating saplings to the school. The officers today further promised to give 2,000 saplings to the school for its plantation drive.

As the students were planting trees today,Vijay Gupta of Nishkam Seva Ashram,a passerby was so impressed by the good work done by the students that he gave 500 saplings of fruit trees,like mango,blackberry,guava,tamarind,chikoo,lemon etc.
