Parents protest fee hike in MGM School

Shivani Madaan,a students’s mother said: “The annual charges have been doubled. While it was Rs 2,500 last year,it has been increased to Rs 5,700 this year. Similarly,the monthly charges have also been increased to Rs 200 for all classes.”

A father of two students,said: “It is difficult for parents like us to bear the fee hike. Instead of deputing good teachers,the school authorities have increased the fee for the whole year. I am now thinking whether to keep my children in the school or not.”

The parents had gathered at the school to collect the annual results of their wards when the news about the fee-hike was made public.

A group of parents,meanwhile,have a called a meeting with the school authorities on February 27.

School director Gajjan Singh,told Newsline over phone: “We have increased the fees but it has not been doubled. The annual charges have been increased by Rs 1,500. The monthly charges,meanwhile,have been increased by only by Rs 100. We have increased the fee after a span of five years. Earlier,we did not charge computer fees. But from this year onwards,we have started charging fees for computer education,smart classes,among other services.”

He added: “I was out of the city when the incident occurred and have been told that nearly 25 to 30 parents participated in the protest. Some anti-social elements,however,entered the school and wreaked a havoc. I will look into the matter once I am back.”
