The management of Mohan Dai Oswal Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation has unveiled its plan to invest about Rs 50-60 crore in the year 2009-10 to make the institute a state-of-art,comprehensive cancer care centre and a multi-speciality hospital by adding equipment and upgradation of existing hospital complex with new buildings.
The institute was was established in 1984 as a charitable institution to extend comprehensive cancer treatment and care to the masses at an affordable price. Today,it is a 325-bedded hospital located on Amritsar-New Delhi GT Road highway near Sherpur bye-pass in the city.
The institution,approved by the Punjab government for cancer treatment up to 10+2 govt school students in the year 2009 at PGI rates. The management said that soon,the hospital would be upgraded to 500 beds with additional facility of 80 bedded cardiac centre and trauma wing etc. It has also planned to expand the teaching programme by starting a diploma in onco-nursing from the current year.
