Sukhlal,a worker in his mid-20s,died when a wall fell on him on Tuesday afternoon.
He was digging earth on the Hambaran Road when the wall of an adjacent hosiery factory collapsed.
Lal was buried under the debris and had to be taken out after clearing the rubble.
SHO Gurpreet Singh said,We are still ascertaining whether it was an accident or the contractor is at fault.
Sources revealed that owner Brij Lal and contractor Jagdev Singh are persuading the workers family to reach a compromise and hence police action is being delayed.
Assistant Town Planner Ramesh Chabbra also visited the spot and said that under-construction buildings had nothing to do with bylaws.
The digging of the foundation should have been done a little away from the adjacent wall. As the distance was too close, the extra pressure must have mounted on the next wall which fell on the worker.
