One more succumbs to swine flu
Sarabjit Kaur,a patient suffering from swine flu,who was under treatment at Deepak Hospital died here on Friday. According to sources,Two samples have tested negative of swine flu. These are of Shanti Devi from Christian Medical College and Hospital and Dr G C Garg of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital.
Fancy vehicle numbers fetch Rs 40 lakh
In the open auction of fancy registration numbers of vehicles conducted by Ashwani Kumar,District Transport Officer,Ludhiana,number PB10CR-0001 was auctioned in Rs 2.78 lakh while number CQ 0001 was auctioned in Rs 2.65 lakh. The auction took place at Nehru Sidhant Kender on Friday. The DTO said,Today,the District Transport Office,Ludhiana,earned a revenue of Rs 40 lakh by selling 629 numbers of three series,i.e CP,CQ and CR.
Sales Tax raid at Sttallone Manors resort
A team of sales tax officers on Friday raided the famous Sttallone Manors resort located at Pakhowal road. As per the information,the resort was giving one third of the tax against the actual liability. It needs to be mentioned that resorts are paying 12.5% tax on catering and 4% luxury tax. The department is working out the tax penalty,which is expected to be in lakhs. Assistant excise and taxation commissioner H.P S Ghotra led the raiding team.
Teachers deputation meets Minister
A deputation of the members of the Association of the Punjab School Education Board-Affiliated Schools on Friday met Dr Upinderjit Kaur,Education MInister,Punjab,under the presidentship of Rajinder Sharma and discussed the problems being faced by the affiliated schools because of the de-affiliation ordered by the school board. The Education Minister assured them that their problems would be sorted out as early as possible.
Annual function held at MGM Public school
MGM Public school organised its annual function on Friday. Dr Upinderjit Kaur,Education Minister,Punjab,was the chief guest on the occasion. While Kuldeep Singh,additional deputy commissioner,presided over the function. The students presented a colourful cultural programme. About 250 meritorious students were awarded on the occasion. Ashok Kumar Setia,Director,Academics,of the school and Gajjan Singh,chairman of the managing committee,were also present there.
