The public sector banks have started charging Rs 10 per packet on deposit of cash in banks if the customer brings more than 10 packets of currency notes of any denomination.

Banks to charge for cash deposits
The public sector banks have started charging Rs 10 per packet on deposit of cash in banks if the customer brings more than 10 packets of currency notes of any denomination. The condition is only for the cash credit limit accounts and current accounts. However,banks said a few clients deposit lakhs on a single day and debit the amount the very next day. So,a lot of time of the employees is wasted in counting the currency notes.

G S Chauhan,circle head,PNB,said,“The Reserve Bank of India has authorised banks to charge nominal amount for cash management.”

Arms licences office openson April 1
Ludhiana Commissioner Police Iswhar Singh said an arms licence unit would be set up at the CPRC officer on April 1. All those desiring to acquire arms licence or have any query regarding the same can approach the office directly.

New academic session at DAV School
The DRV DAV Centenary Public School at Phillaur organised ‘Hawan’ to commemorate the first day of the new academic session 2010-11 on Monday. Yogesh Gambhir,Principal of the school,extended a warm welcome to the new students and encouraged them to work hard.

Training workshops at PAU
The Directorate of Extension Education,Punjab Agricultural University,is organising a training camp in the Wheat Auditorium on Thursday. Experts will discuss the cultivation of summer pulses,pest management strategies,post-harvest handling of garlic and onion and technology for the paddy nursery. Dr M S Gill,director of the Extension Education department,said members of the PAU Kisan Club will also participate in the programme. The camp coordinators are Dr T S Riar and Dr V K Bhambota.

Later in the week,a three-day training programme on the ‘Use of drip,sprinkler irrigation and polyhouses’ will be held from April 7 to 9 at Kairon Kisan Ghar. 

Farmers’ meet in Fazilka village today
The Deputy Director (Training),Krishi Vigyan Kendra,Ferozepur,Dr H S Gill said a farmers’ meet in collaboration with the Naujwan Kisan Club is being organised at Ghatianwali village in Fazilka on Tuesday. Dr. Manjit Singh Kang,Vice-Chancellor,PAU,will be the chief guest while the Dr M S Gill,Director of Extension Education will preside over the function. O P Bhatt,Assistant General Manager,Rural Business Unit,State Bank of India,Chandigarh,will be the special guest.

Ultra sound machine sealed
Ludhiana Civil Surgeon Dr Maninderjeet Singh along with the officials of the health department comprising Dr Reena Sidhu and Sumita Sachdev and Dr Navneet Singh checked about eight ultra sound machines located in different places in the district. The raiding team has sealed one machine for not maintaining records mandatory under the PNDT Act and some hospitals were issues show cause notices. Dr Maninderjeet Singh said,“We suspended the registration of scan machine installed at the Arora Nursing Home at Samrala Chowk after we found that the records maintained by the hospital not adequate. Meanwhile,show cause notices have been issued to Bombay Daignostic Centre at Kalra Hospital Baba Than Singh Chowk and Sachdeva Hospital at Sector 32 on the Chandigarh Road.”
