Garcha’s protest cools,LIT marks its territory in Karnail Singh Nagar

After raising a storm over Ludhiana Improvement Trust’s decision to demolish encroachment at an 8.8-acre plot of land in Karnail Singh Nagar in February, former SAD minister Jagdish Singh Garcha now seems out of steam.

After raising a storm over Ludhiana Improvement Trust’s (LIT) decision to demolish encroachment at an 8.8-acre plot of land in Karnail Singh Nagar in February, former SAD minister Jagdish Singh Garcha now seems out of steam.

While earlier the ex-minister moved heaven and earth to stake claim over the land, even throwing a signboard of the LIT in the Sidhwan Canal in protest,on Wednesday when the LIT team took measurements for constructing a boundary wall Garcha chose to keep silent.

“I am not above the law. I protested earlier because a legal case was pending in the Supreme Court over the ownership of the plot, which has now gone in favour of the LIT,” Garcha explained.

Meanwhile,LIT sources said a multi-storeyed housing society may come up on the land.

R D Avasthi,Sub-Divisional Officer of LIT,said: “The construction of a boundary wall will begin soon. The government will take the decision whether a housing society will be constructed here or not.”
