Did pretty well, though few projects are incomplete, says outgoing DC

The three-and-a-half-year tenure in Ludhiana was a mixed bag for outgoing Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tewari

The three-and-a-half-year tenure in Ludhiana was a mixed bag for outgoing Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tewari.

“It was a pretty long tenure in Ludhiana but not the longest one. Few DCs in the past have even stayed for five years in Ludhiana. But,yes,in the recent past,I had the longest tenure,” said Tewari, who has been transferred as Amritsar DC.

Busy clearing pending work,he rates his performance in Ludhiana as “pretty well”. “I did lots of projects for the benefit of the masses,” he said. “However,a few bitter experiences are always with everyone.”

A health freak,Tewari was often seen cycling on city roads. He was also spotted playing his favourite sport of badminton.

Among his achievements,he lists computerisation of the registrar and sub-registrar office, providing better facilities for commuters at Suvidha centres, and an attempt to give a cleaner look to the government offices.

An inter-department competition for giving the departments a cleaner look was a first by the DC. It included a cash prize of Rs 11,000.

The deputy commissioner also used to find spelling mistakes in the files and thus kept his sub-ordinates on their toes.

Are there any regrets? “A few works are still in the pipeline which I personally wanted to complete. These were drug de-addiction centre and female foeticide project which have been left incomplete,” he said. “But I am ready for my next assignment.”

Amritsar DC Rajat Aggarwal will be joining Ludhiana, but has gone on a personal tour. Tewari will leave once Aggarwal is back.
