PAU to expedite feedback mechanism

Ludhiana: The Directorate of Extension Education,Punjab Agricultural University (PAU),has initiated steps to revamp the mechanism of gathering feedback from farmers and to pass it on to research and related departments. The aim is to ensure quick redressal of the problem. Director of Extension Education Dr M S Gill said this while addressing the state-level meeting of extension personnel from krishi vigyan kendras,Farm Advisory Service Scheme and different departments of PAU. The feedback on the incidence of white fly in brinjal,use of oxytoxin injections in vegetables,adverse effects of jatropha seeds,control of poa and phalaris minor in wheat,sooty mould in kinnow etc sent by extension personnel of PAU were discussed and passed on to experts.

GADVASU cancels youth fest due to death of student

Ludhiana: Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), has cancelled the Youth Festival,which was scheduled in the first week of January,after the death of Amanpreet Singh,a fourth year student of BVSc and AH Programme. The decision was taken at a meeting of senior officials and the presidents of dance,drama and music clubs and students’ representatives of different colleges. A condolence meeting was held at the College of Veterinary Science to pay homage to the deceased student. Vice-Chancellor Dr V K Taneja,along with teachers,employees and students,observing a two-minute silence.

PCTE student bags gold medal

Ludhiana: Ragini Khanna,an MBA (2008-2010 batch) student of Punjab College of Technical Education (PCTE),Ludhiana,has bagged the gold medal and Shikha Goyal of the same batch has bagged the overall bronze medal in the examinations conducted by Punjab Technical University (PTU),Jalandhar. Ragini scored 91.16 per cent — 2,917 marks out of 3,200 — while Shikha got 89.72 per cent — 2,871 marks out of 3200. Dr K N S Kang,Director General,PCTE Group of Institutes,said: “Out of the 10 batches of MBA that has passed out till now,this is the 7th gold medal that PCTE students have bagged,since its inception in 1999.”

Annual function held

Ludhiana: The Amrit Indo Canadian Academy organised its annual function and observed the martyrdom of four sahibzadas and their grandmother Mata Gujri,here on Monday. The function started with recitation of shabads by the students of various classes. Principal Jaskiran Kaur Poonam apprised the gathering about the achievements of students.
