The seed 'scam' came to light after a private shop 'Brar Seed Store' located opposite gate no. 1 of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) was allegedly found selling spurious seeds of PAU's new varieties which are yet to be approved.

Punjab paddy seed scam: Speaking to The Indian Express, Tarsem Singh Dhillon, director (seeds), PAU said this was the first year that the varsity had sold ‘Truthfully Labelled’ (TL) seeds of two new paddy varieties — PR 128 and PR 129 — to farmers only.

The major attraction of the development of Bt varieties is that farmers can produce the seed for next year on their own and will get rid of purchase of costly hybrid seed every year.

Ludhiana,Jan 22 (ANI): Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana comes alive with the lively performances by students from North India. "Goonj-2016", the four-day long 31st Inter-University North Zone Youth Festival was organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs in collaboration with Association of Indian Universities (AIU). Some 1200 students from universities across North India participated in 26 events including folk and classical music, mimicry, theatre, quiz and literary activities. The best performers will represent the north zone in a national level youth festival to be held in Mysore city in Karnataka.
