Rain mars last day of SGPC campaigning
LUDHIANA: Campaigning came to an end for SGPC elections on Friday at 5 pm. However the candidates could not utilise the day due to heavy rainfall and even the door to door campaign was hit badly. In Khanna,about 1000 police employees did a flag march in wake of SGPC elections scheduled to be held September 18. SP(D) Balwinder Singh and DSP Khanna Davinder Singh Dhuri led the march. In Ludhiana west,current SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar was not able to carry out the door to door campaign due to the rainfall. Harpal Singh Kohli,advisor to Makkar said,Today the slips were to be distributed to voters apart from talking to them personally. Candidates Balwinder Singh Bains,G S Gosha and few others were busy making last minute efforts in meeting people carrying umbrellas. Candidates stated that though campaign has come to an end,they will relax only when polls are over.
Brother-sister win 13 PU swimming medals
LUDHIANA: Amarpal Singh and his younger sister Arshpreet Kaur,both students of Kamla Lohtia SD College,have won 13 medals in Inter College Swimming Competition held at Panjab University,Chandigarh. Amarpal Singh,the 20-year-old grabbed a gold medal,three silver medals and four bronze medals in the competition,while Arshpreet Kaur grabbed five bronze medals.
