While the intelligentsia condemns the union leaders and politicians for holding public to ransom by staging dharnas and road blockades, today doctors of Indian Medical Association (IMA),who are demanding withdrawal of a criminal case against two Doraha-based doctors, blocked traffic on the busy Ferozepur road for about one hour as none of the district administration officials was present to take their memorandum.
Since last Sunday the Ludhiana chapter of IMA has been demanding withdrawal of a criminal case registered against Dr Gurdeep Sidhu and Dr Naveen Lakir of Sidhu Hospital,Doraha, after the death of a BJP leader last week. Past president of Ludhiana IMA,Dr Arun Mitra said that they were left with no option but to block traffic as despite being informed, none of the officials was present to take their memorandum. Later, when the SDM (West),Prem Chand came to the dharna venue and received a memorandum from doctors, the dharna was lifted.
Earlier, the IMA doctors had gathered outside the Batra hotel on Ferozepur road at about 9 am. From there, they took out a march to the deputy commissioners office in the District Administrative Complex (DAC). But when they reached the office of DC Vikas Garg, they did not find him there. Then doctors tried to hand over their memorandum to other officer but they could not find any of them. It made doctors infuriated as they had informed the district administration in advance that they would be coming to hand over their memorandum on Friday morning. Then the agitated doctors blocked the traffic on the busy Ferozepur road in front of the DAC. The road blockade continued for about one hour till the SDM (West) Prem Chand came to receive their memorandum.
Dr Mitra said that in the memorandum they had asked the DC to intervene into the matter to get the criminal case against the Doraha based doctors cancelled.
