To promote public transport,the Uttar Pradesh Road Transport Corporation plans to introduce a system of yearly travel passes from June 25. Directives have been issued to regional managers to issue yearly passes,costing Rs 1,800 per annum,to all commuters,state Transport Minister Ram Achal Rajbhar said.
The passes will be issued at a concessional rate of Rs 999 to government and semi-government employees,police personnel,students,women and mediapersons. The passes could be used for travel in both general and AC city buses,said Rajbhar.
Half-yearly passes will also be issued in two categories of Rs 949 and Rs 549 per passenger,apart from the monthly passes in the range of Rs 50-200. The pass system will also be launched in rural areas for distances up to 40 km,the minister said. In the first phase,the scheme will be launched in Allahabad,Varanasi,Azamgarh,Gorakhpur,Faizabad,Jhansi and Chitrakoot for three months.
