UP trader to give Rs 5 lakh for info on his parents

A businessman in Muzaffarnagar has announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh seeking information about his parents who have gone missing in Kedarnath following the devastating flash floods in Uttarakhand.

A businessman in Muzaffarnagar has announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh seeking information about his parents who have gone missing in Kedarnath following the devastating flash floods in Uttarakhand. Sanjay Goel,42,has pasted posters at several places in the flood-hit state announcing the reward and is also claimed to have given advertisement in the local media there.

Sanjay’s father Nand Kishore Goyal (65) and mother Vijay Laxmi (58),along with eight others, had gone on a pilgrimage. They went missing while returning from the Kedarnath temple. The remaining eight in the group, which included former local BJP MLA Ashok Kansal, and who are Goels’ neighbours and friends, returned home on June 21.

Sanjay is also trying to trace the four persons who were carrying the palanquin in which his mother was travelling.

“My father was travelling alongside the palanquin carrying my mother. They got separated soon after the flood. We believe the carriers of the palanquin must have taken them to some safe location. My neighbours gave me the receipt that was issued when the palanquin was hired. The receipt has a name Dal Bahadur with his address. We are trying to contact Bahadur,” said Sanjay, who runs a wholesale grain shop in Muzaffarnagar’s Kotwali area.

Sanjay’s younger brother Sandeep went to Uttarakhand with his few relatives to locate his parents and the carriers of the palanquin but could not get any information. “They could not reach the place mentioned on the receipt because of the rescue operations going on there. We will send a letter to that address with our telephone numbers and other details requesting to contact us. We hope the four carriers could give us some information about my parents,” Sanjay said. He is planning to go to Uttarakhand next week.
