Police claimed to have solved the case of an acid attack on a 24-year-old primary school teacher by and arrested her uncle on Wednesday.
Sabina Khatoons uncle Mohammad Iliyas,a tempo driver,was arrested near Budeshwaram Mandir in Thakurganj. A motorcycle allegedly used in the crime was recovered.
Sabina,working as Shikshamitra,was injured when an unidentified person threw acid on her while she was on way to school in Kakori. She was admitted to Balrampur Hospital. Umesh Bahadur Singh,inspector of Kakori police,said Iliyas confessed to the crime. He told the police that Sabina was close to her, but had started ignoring to him lately. Therefore,he threw acid on her.
Sabina denied that she had any sexual relations with Iliyas,the inspector said. A resident of Thakurganj in Lucknow,Iliyas is married and has two children.
Singh said that witnesses told the police that the man who threw acid on Sabina had a pockmarked face and the description matched Iliyas. During the probe,they found out that Iliyas was seen near the spot of the crime.
