Two commit suicide after sentenced to life

Two persons accused of murder reportedly committed suicide by consuming poison after they were sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in Faizabad district on Friday.

Faizabad SP (City) Anil Kumar Rai said Virendra Tiwari alias Pappu and Santosh Shukla started vomiting and their condition deteriorated soon after they arrived at the district jail at 6.20 pm. They were rushed to the jail hospital where they died after an hour,he added.

Rai also said that nobody had seen Tiwari and Shukla consuming poison and the postmortem would confirm the cause of the deaths.

Joint Director (Prosecution) at Faizabad,Rajiv Srivastava,said Tiwari,a native of Gonda district,and Shukla,of Ayodhya (Faizabad),were out on bail and had come to attend the court proceedings today.

The duo and and another co-accused,Amarjeet alias Bhola,were sentenced to life imprisonment. Bhola had been in jail since he was arrested,along with two other accused,in 2003 for murdering an old woman and looting her house. The police arrested three of them and recovered valuables and other things looted from the house.
